Migatte no Gokui
This drawing was for my sister. She's a big Dragon Ball Z fan, and she wanted me to draw this for her and her husband. She sent me a few pictures, and had me draw a character called Migatte no Gokui.
First, I sectioned off three parts of the paper. The three pictures I was supposed to copy showed Goku's face, his head and chest, and then from his head to his torso. I chose to draw the one with his head and chest at the top. For this type of anime, there are a lot of shadows, and they give the drawing character, so I tried to stay as close to the real picture as I could.
The next picture I used for the center section is focused on Goku's face. I first started out with the outline of his head. I had a little trouble with the shape of his face. I filled in the shadows of his ear to get the shape, and under his mouth and nose. Other than that, I kept the outline as basic as I could.
After that I filled in the shadows for his face, and I highlighted his hair. I added the scuff marks on his face and added an extra furrow to his eyebrows.
For the last section, I used the picture that showed from Goku's head to his torso. Since the picture I had was small and a little grainy, I had problems distinguishing the facial features. His head is slightly tilted, which I didn't notice at first, so it affected the way his neck was built. I had to redraw the face shape two or three times before I got it right. The outline drawing looks a little funny, but that's why the shadows give the drawing character.
After the shadows were filled in, it looked a lot better. I added muscles to his neck and chest with the shadows.
After I finished the drawing, I asked my sister if she wanted it colored. Of course, she did, so I used colored pencils to color it. In this particular scene, there's blue fire, or something similar coming from Goku's body. Since I couldn't really do that with pencils, I had blue light coming off of him instead. It starts light blue and fades into black. For the shadows on his skin, I started with a pinkish-peach color, but then I changed my mind and used brown instead. For his shirt, I used two different blues and then used black lightly over the shaded parts.
I thought it looked pretty accurate to the original drawings. All of you Dragon Ball Z fans can let me know in the comments how accurate it is. :)
